visiting the eastern Adriatic island of Brijuni have the
opportunity to take a drive in Tito's 1953 Cadillac. #L#
Josip Broz Tito who ruled the former Yugoslavia from World war II
until his death in 1980 drove and used this car personally from 1953
until 1973.
The vehicle hosted many heads of state, premiers, artists, actors
and writers Tito had invited as guests to his summer holiday
residence on Brijuni. These included Nehru, Naser, Indira Ghandi,
Prince Sihanuk, Dutch Queen Juliana, the first female cosmonaut
Valentina Teryeshkova, , Croatian writer Miroslav Krleza, opera
singer Zinka Kunc, Sophia Loren, Karlo Ponti, Elizabeth Taylor and
Richard Burton.
Reporters taking the premier 30-minute ride in the Cadillac driven
by a professional driver, were told the ride costs 320 kuna
(US$38).
Guests from Great Britain and the United States whose luxury yachts
have been anchored on Brijuni have shown most interest in the
Cadillac, as well as hotel guests on Brijuni.
