SABOR SPEAKER TO DISCUSS STIPETIC CASE WITH MESIC, RACAN

VIR, Aug 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament Speaker and president of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Zlatko Tomcic, said on Thursday he would request a meeting with President Stipe Mesic and Prime Minister Ivica Racan so that it could be clarified if the Hague war crimes tribunal was conducting an investigation against general Petar Stipetic. Tomcic, who today visited Zadar, where he opened the third summer meeting of young HSS members, said dissonant tones had appeared regarding the Stipetic case. "On the one hand, (Croatian Social Liberal Party president Drazen) Budisa claims that the information on the Hague indictment against general Petar Stipetic is true, and on the other hand, Croatian President Stipe Mesic and Premier Ivica Racan say the name of general Stipetic was not brought up in their talks with Carla del Ponte," Tomcic said. "This is why I will request, after the President and the Prime Minister return from the United States, that we hold a meeting and clarify whether an investigation against general Stipetic is being conducted in The Hague, or if this was misinformation which someone has fallen for," Tomcic said.
