ZAGREB/DUBROVNIK, Aug 4 (Hina) - Guido Snel, a Dutch who has been spending summer holiday at the house of Dubrovnik actor, Niko Kovac, for years, has translated yet another book written by a famous Croatian man-of-letters, Miroslav Krleza, into the Dutch language.#L# After the translation of the "Djetinjstvo U Agramu (The Childhood in Agram)", Snel translated "Povratak Filipa Latinovicza (The Return of Filip Latinovicz)". The latter is issued by the biggest Dutch publisher 'De Bezige Bij'. Five years ago, Snel translated "The Childhood in Agram" with the assistance of Mrs. Lela Zeckovic, who was his professor at Amsterdam University. The translated book was published in 1,000 copies and was commended by critics and recognised by the cultural public. Snel has been quoted by "Dubrovacki List" newspaper as saying that they have decided to translate again "The Return of Filip Latinovicz", because the first translation into the Dutch was done by a Jesuit priest in 1967, who censored some parts. Besides, this translation, like any old translation, has become obsolete, said Guido Snel, who teaches Slavic studies at Amsterdam University. The title of the translated book will be "De Terugkeer van Filip Latinovicz". It remains to be seen whether Snel's translations will help acquaint Dutch readers with the novelist Krleza's work.
