The invitation to visit the United States, which has been forwarded shortly after the elections, Croatia received as an expression of satisfaction about the results of the elections and welcoming the new Croatian authority at the international political scene, Nick said. ZAGREB, Aug 2 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic, who is to go
on an official visit to the United States on August 7 with Croatian
Prime Minister Ivica Racan, is going to have an exceptionally rich
programme during his visit, Croatian President's advisor for
foreign policy Stanko Nick said in Zagreb Wednesday.
The invitation to visit the United States, which has been forwarded
shortly after the elections, Croatia received as an expression of
satisfaction about the results of the elections and welcoming the
new Croatian authority at the international political scene, Nick
said.
The fact that the Croatian President and the Prime Minister were
invited to visit the United States at the same time, Nick stressed
it was Washington's wish to show Croatia that it needed to have a
united standpoint when it comes to foreign policy.
The Croatian delegation is scheduled to meet United States
President Bill Clinton in the White House on August 9. The protocol
includes 45 minute long meeting.
The Croatian delegation's programme also includes talks and lunch
with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright who is to be presented
with high Croatian decoration, a visit to the Pentagon and talks
with Defence Secretaries, the Treasury Secretary and
representatives of the Democratic and the Republican parties in the
United States Congress.
The Croatian delegation is also to visit the World Bank in
Washington and the International Monetary Fund. They are to have a
working breakfast in the United State Chamber of Commerce and be
present at a presentation of possibilities for the computerisation
of the work of the state administration.
In the Croatian Embassy, Croatian officials are to meet
representatives of Croatian Associations. They are also scheduled
to hold talks with representatives of well-known Jewish
associations and visit the Holocaust Museum.,
The Croatian President is to travel to the United states on a
regular air line. It is still not known whether President Mesic
would be accompanied by his wife due to private reasons.
Prime Minister Racan will be accompanied by his wife, Croatian
Foreign Minister and President's advisors Stanko Nick and Imra
Agotic.
