BJELOVAR, July 22 (Hina) - Croatia's Assistant Agriculture and Forestry Minister Josip Hrala said in Daruvar on Saturday the government intended to purchase about half this year's 1.1 million tonnes of wheat harvest. Speaking to local
farmers, Hrala said the government, the competent ministry, and the State Buffer Stocks Management had already been organised to purchase about 250,000 tonnes from farmers and another 200,000 tonnes, from farmers and corporate bodies, for export. We believe we will also have to purchase another 100,000-150,000 tonnes, 500,000-600,000 in all, and I believe the wheat will be paid by mid-August, said the assistant minister. Asked by local farmers if taxpayers would pay for a recent pillage in buffer stocks, Hrala said it was certain they would not, because half the stolen quantity was already being or would be returned.
