ZAGREB, July 18 (Hina) - An association of persons claiming the
right to shares of Croatian Telecom (HT) will submit a request to
the competent court and the Croatian government seeking cessation
of any HT-related transactions.
Association president Barbara Markac-Despinic told reporters on
Tuesday the request came in the wake of the Constitutional Court's
failure to rule on a motion the association made seeking assessment
of the constitutionality of laws on telecommunications and the sale
of HT.
The association has called on the Constitutional Court to rule as
soon as possible in order to prevent new damaging consequences for
Croatia's citizens.
The further sale of HT is morally, politically, and economically
unacceptable and harmful, said Markac-Despinic.
She added the association, which numbers about 12,000 members,
based its demands on the constitutional right stipulating that
rights earned by investing capital cannot be diminished nor
rescinded by any law.
The association believes the laws on telecommunications and the
sale of HT are harmful for more than one million Croatian citizens
who earmarked large sums to finance the telecommunications
network, while HT shares are being sold to foreign companies, such
as Deutsche Telekom.
