ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Thursday
visited the Zagreb-based company Ericsson Nikola Tesla company,
where he attended the presentation of an Internet kiosk and a
project called "Internet Kiosk in Every Croatian School".
The president of the company's management, Ake Enell, presented the
basic information about the company, which last year realised a
post-tax profit of 94 million kuna. The company's vision is to have
a leading role in the new world of telecommunications and the fact
that the parent company has decided that Ericsson Nikola Tesla
should be responsible for telecommunication and business systems
in central and east Europe confirms that, Enell said.
The management's vice president, Rajko Pfaff, presented the
company's achievements in the first five months of this year,
singling out a GSM contract with Montenegro, an integration centre
for the third generation of cellular phones and Internet
applications, exports to Moldavia and continued exports to Russia,
an ISDN contract with Croatian Telecom, international interest in
Internet kiosks and contracts on the delivery of an AXE plant to
Sarajevo, the first contact signed with that market in eight
years.
Speaking about the Internet kiosk project, Enell said this was a
product made by Croatian experts. In the new communication world,
the Internet kiosk is the place of the central provider of different
information, including the search and viewing of Internet contents
and the sending of e-mail and e-mail cards. Potential clients are
banks, hotels, railway stations, airports etc.
Another strategic point are schools due the access of young people
to new technologies, Enell said, inviting sponsors to join in the
implementation of the project.
Congratulating the company's employees, President Mesic said this
was a step into the 21st century for Croatia. Croatia should
activate its production potential and promote its export
potential, Mesic said adding Croatia would soon become known for
the export of knowledge.
Addressing representatives of the company management, Mesic said,
"Countries beyond the Caspian Sea must turn to Croatia. With this
you are making a major step (toward Croatia) and Croatia should
export its products to those countries. This product of Croatian
competence is our ambassador," Mesic said.
On behalf of the company, Enell presented Mesic with an Internet
kiosk, which is to be installed in the President's Office, and an
Ericsson WAP phone.
