ZAGREBACKA, PBZ, RIJECKA BANKA - CROATIA'S BIGGEST BANKS IN 1999 ZAGREB, July 16 (Hina) - Zagrebacka Banka heads the list of Croatian banks according to the entire stock capital, liable capital, and returns before and after taxation
in the business year 1999, says "Banks - Croatia and the World", a special edition of the Trade Bulletin presented at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce this week. Second on the list is Privredna Banka Zagreb (PBZ), which is followed by Rijecka Banka. Last year, Zagrebacka Banka retained the number one position on the list of Croatia's most successful banks with its entire stock capital of 2.1 billion kuna (US$262.5 million). PBZ came in second, as in 1998, with 1.98 billion kuna (US$247.5 million), and Rijecka Banka was again third, with 505 million kuna (US$63.13 million). The ranking is the same in terms of liable capital. Zagrebacka Banka was first also in terms of assets, followed by PBZ and Splitska Banka. The

Zagrebacka Banka was first also in terms of assets, followed by PBZ
and Splitska Banka. The same ranking refers to gross revenue, with
Zagrebacka Banka making 2.6 billion kuna (US$325 million), PBZ 1.4
billion kuna (US$175 million), and Splitska Banka 684 million kuna
(US$85.5 million).
Zagrebacka Banka was first also in terms of returns prior to
taxation, namely 372 million kuna (US$46.5 million), followed by
PBZ with 221 million kuna (US$27.63 million), and Rijecka Banka
with 90 million kuna (US$11.25 million).
Only three Croatian banks have a credit rating, Dalmatinska Banka
with BB+, Varazdinska Banka with BB, and Zagrebacka Banka with BB+
and Ba1. Twenty-four banks have their web-pages on the Internet.
Zagrebacka Banka employs 4,055 and PBZ 3,258 workers out of a total
of 16,567 bank employees throughout the country. Splitska Banka
employs 1,108 and Rijecka Banka 1,093.
Twenty-four banks have automatic tellers, 642 in total, including
Zagrebacka Banka's 173, PBZ's 81, and Raiffeisenbank Austria's
80.
Eleven Croatian banks have made the top 100 of banks in Central
Europe, with Zagrebacka Banka holding the tenth position, PBZ the
17th and Rijecka Banka the 49th.
