LOVAS LOVAS, July 7 (Hina) - In compliance with a demolition order of Croatia's Environmental Protection and Physical Planning Ministry, the pulling down of the illegally-built Serb Orthodox Church started in the eastern Croatian town
of Lovas. This Orthodox Church in Lovas (Vukovar-Sirmium County) was constructed in 1992 after local Serb rebels, who at the time controlled that part of Croatia, had torn down four privately-owned houses and built the church instead. The 600-square-metre-large church, has not yet been used as the construction of its interior has not been completed. According to Lovas Mayor Zeljko Cirba, the demolition will take some five days. Although local authorities has proposed that crosses and domes be handed over to Orthodox Church dignitaries, nobody has so far voiced the wish to take it, Cirba added.
