ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - Possibilities of investment by Dutch
companies in infrastructure projects in Croatia and the successful
cooperation between the Netherlands and Croatia in the field of
agriculture were some of the topics discussed at a round table held
at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
Participating in the discussion, entitled "Stimulating
Cooperation Between Croatia and the Netherlands", were, among
others, Dutch Foreign Trade Minister Gerrit Ybema and Croatia's
Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Construction, Radimir
Cacic, and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bozidar Pankretic.
Investments into water management, water and gas supply, sewerage
and public buildings are interesting to foreign investors in
Croatia, Cacic said.
He emphasised the possibility of investment into the insurance
sector and areas of special state concern, where investment
conditions for companies are more favourable and where they are
exempt from profit and income taxation and pay decreased pension
and health insurance contributions.
The Netherlands and Croatia have been cooperating successfully in
the field of agriculture, Pankretic said, adding the Netherlands
had so far provided assistance worth 6.3 million gulden for five
agricultural projects in Croatia.
Pankretic also spoke about the damage the war caused to agriculture
and current problems in the agriculture sector regarding Croatia's
admission to the World Trade Organisation.
Dutch Foreign Trade Minister Gerrit Ybema said over the past
several months companies from the Netherlands have been
demonstrating significant interest in investing into Croatia.
He added about 30 Dutch companies were currently doing business in
Croatia.
The trade between the Netherlands and Croatia last year amounted to
191.6 million dollars. Last year, Croatia imported goods from the
Netherlands worth 141.7 million dollars, while its exports to the
Netherlands amounted to 49.9 million dollars.
