ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - The Croatian government at Friday's
session forwarded into parliament a demand that both houses of the
Croatian National Parliament convene for an extraordinary session
between July 11 and 17.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan explained the government suggestion
with the need to consider and adopt motions for two major reforms,
in health and health insurance and the power supply sector, so that
bills formulating the reforms could be addressed in the autumn.
It is also urgent that Croatia adjust its legislation in view of
impending access to the World Trade Organisation, for instance
adopt amendments to the law on tariffs.
It is necessary to complete measures aimed at stimulating the
economy and house-building, especially in regions of special
government concern.
Parliament's extraordinary session should also discuss a proposal
on making constitutional changes so that concrete changes could be
formulated in the autumn, said the prime minister.
He said the July session should also tackle appointing expert
councils for universities, a new governor for the Croatian National
Bank, his deputy and the central bank's council.
Racan announced the government should soon discuss reforms for the
railway and shipbuilding sectors, to prepare them for sessions in
the autumn. This would in great part complete a strategy of economic
changes, he concluded.
