ZAGREB, June 14 (Hina) - Sabor's House of Counties on Wednesday
endorsed bills on the work of shops, on sanctions, audit of
ownership transformation and privatisation and on the planned
census.
Working hours of shops should be harmonised in the whole of Croatia
and during tourist seasons shops should work longer during a day,
according to the draft act.
The trade's share in the entire income from tourism represents 6.29
percent.
Under the draft act, food shops should be open from 07.00 am to 10.00
pm every day and other stores from 09.00 am to 11.00 pm during the
tourist season. In other periods food shops should work from 08.00
am to 08.00 pm and other shops from 10.00 to 09.00 pm.
During a debate deputies to the Croatian national parliament's
upper house suggested that an act should define the maximum working
hours, while shop owners should decide what it is their interest. In
addition, more attention should be given to the definition of the
work on Sundays.
Another bill endorsed by the upper house today is the law on
imposing sanctions, which stipulates manners for solving problems
about the maintenance and sale of foreign fishing boats caught
poaching in the Croatian territorial waters.
MPs okayed the draft act on the auditing of ownership
transformation and privatisation. According to the act, proposed
by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), the entire process starting
from ownership changes while the last SFRY Premier Ante Markovic
had been in office, should be audited and reconsidered.
The upper house maintains this act, drafted by an HDZ leader
Vladimir Seks, should be added to an act proposed by the Government
on this matter.
The House of Counties gave the green light for the census act.
Besides the number of Croatian citizens, the new census should
offer a survey of the social and economic structure. The number of
disabled people should be counted for the first time.
The census, which will be conducted in the first half of April 2001,
will cost 200 million kuna (about 50 million German marks). It will
engage 27,000 people. The last census in Croatia was carried out in
1991.
