ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - The House of Representatives on Wednesday
unanimously adopted changes to the Law on Children's Allowance,
which will go into force on September 1 this year.
According to the changes, children's allowance will be granted to
the children of farmers, trades people and unemployed persons.
The changes will enable about 200,000 children to receive
allowances, which will increase the total number of beneficiaries
to between 450,000 and 500,000. An additional 130 million kuna will
have to be secured this year for the new beneficiaries.
Families receiving children's allowance have been divided into two
groups, according to their income.
The lower house today unanimously adopted changes to the Law on Mine
Removal, which equalises some rights of mine removal experts and
their families with those of Croatian soldiers. Since the changes
refer to only about 40 persons, it is believed they will not burden
the budget significantly.
The parliament adopted a report on the implementation of the 1999
mine removal programme and funds spent for that purpose.
The Government has been entrusted with securing additional funds
and financial sources so that the process of mine removal could be
accelerated.
Today's session continued with a debate on two bills on the
reconstruction and development of Vukovar, proposed by the
government and a group of deputies from the fifth constituency.
