A protocol on the completion of talks was signed by Croatia's Deputy
Economy Minister Neven Mimica and Fabrizio Barbaso, political
director at the European Commission's external relations
administration.
The signing of the protocol marks the end of negotiations on
Croatia's admission to the WTO and opens the procedural stage of the
process, which, according to Mimica, should be "very short and last
a month or two."
The report and protocol determining conditions for admission
should be now approved by a WTO working group, after which they are
to be approved by the WTO Main Council and ratified by the Croatian
National Parliament.
The signing of the protocol not only enables Croatia to enter the
WTO, it also represents an important step toward Croatia's further
integration into European structures, said Barbaso, commending
Croatian negotiators for professionalism and competence.
