The five-year-long agony is finally over and it has been confirmed
that there is no alternative to democracy, Bandic said.
The new mayor announced that he would see that the city
administration was accessible to and really served the citizens.
Bandic also pledged to support the recovery of crafts and trades,
small- and medium-sized entrepreneurship, as well as the creation
of new jobs and the reorganisation of companies from Zagreb, along
with the arrival of foreign capital for the financing of city
projects.
Bandic also pledged to return self-government to Zagreb and reopen
some popular venues in Zagreb.
"We want to say 'no' to revenge-seeking, but we will insist on
responsibility and professionalism," Bandic said, adding the new
city authority would not rule but run the city to the benefit of its
citizens.
City Assembly President Franjo Zenko thanked councillors for their
unanimous support, stressing he was especially pleased that the
constituent session was held in the wake of Independence Day and the
Day of Zagreb, Our Lady of the Stone Gate. Zenko said he was
confident that the time when the President of the Republic had
refused to confirm four Zagreb mayors was behind us.
The main task of the new composition of the City Assembly will be to
reinforce the reputation of the Assembly as a true political and
representative authority, Zenko said.
Today's session also established a Committee for the Statute, Rule
Book and Regulations, headed by Boris Sprem, whereas Bernarda
Jurcec was re-elected the Assembly's secretary.
