ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - Croatia's representatives who attended a
convention of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
(EBRD), which was held in the Latvian capital Riga in the past two
days, have made a step forward in presenting the country's
macroeconomic policy, Croatian Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac said
in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The Croatian delegation used the EBRD conference as an opportunity
to present changes which have been made in Croatia and the
Government's economic policy. The overall macroeconomic policy was
welcomed, we have received EBRD's support as well as the support of
the World Bank and others, Crkvenac said.
Concrete projects were discussed at numerous meetings the Croatian
delegation held with bankers and representatives of other
financial institutions. Also discussed at those meetings was the
possibility of granting the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (HBOR) more significant funds and stimulating exports.
Crkvenac said the Government intended to make the relatively cheap
capital from foreign countries and other sources cheaper by
subsidising part of interest rates from the budget.
Participants in the conference also demonstrated an increased
interest in the privatisation of Croatian companies. Crkvenac said
that companies from the state's portfolio would be privatised.
Foreign bankers are interested in continuing cooperation with
Croatian banks and in taking over some smaller banks, he added.
Interest was also demonstrated in Croatia's tourism, the
reorganisation of agriculture, shipbuilding industry and its
privatisation, and infrastructure.
Attending the Riga conference at Crkvenac's side were also Deputy
Prime Minister Slavko Linic, Croatian National Bank (HNB) Governor
Marko Skreb, and representatives of several commercial banks.
