DARDA, May 15 (Hina) - The Association of Serb displaced persons and
refugees in Croatia based in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar
held an irregular electoral assembly in Darda Sunday night, at
which Jovan Vlajkovic was appointed new president.
Davor Jovic was appointed new chairman of the head committee.
The association was registered in 1998. Jovan Vlajkovic told
reporters Monday that the Association aimed at enabling the
accelerated return of all people to their homes.
At the session, we assessed that "former representatives of
Croatian authorities had not endorsed a publicly supported will for
two-way returnees", Vlajkovic stressed. He added that the highest
body of the Association --the Assembly-- welcomed all efforts of
the new Croatian National Sabor, Government and President invested
in the equalisation of rights of all those who need to return to
their homes.
The Assembly harshly condemned all attempts of far right-wingers to
politicise attempts of Croatia and the international community in
finding ways for everyone to return to their homes, Vlajkovic
added.
When asked why was it that the Association's stamp read four S's,
which provoked Croatian displaced persons and returnees, Vlajkovic
said it was a traditional symbol of the Serb ethic community and
that it was not meant as a provocation.
We want better cooperation the community of returnees of Osijek-
Baranja county and Vukovar-Srijem county and the Association of
returnees of Croatia, because our goals are the same, namely to
return people to their homes, he concluded.
