ZAGREB, May 12 (Hina) - Croatia's messages were accepted in France with understanding and Croatia will certainly have France as an advocate of its interests, said Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday upon his return from Paris
where he conducted a two-day visit. The fact that France was the first western European country Mesic had visited since he took office, was described by the Croatian President as "a good move that will have reverberations in Europe and the world". This was also a good move as France will take over the rotating presidency over the European Union in six weeks, he added. "France wants an open Croatia where it can invest," Mesic told reporters immediately after he landed at the Pleso airport. He said that during the talks with top French officials the Croatian delegation had confirmed that very soon its country would have legislation compatible with European standards. Conce
ZAGREB, May 12 (Hina) - Croatia's messages were accepted in France
with understanding and Croatia will certainly have France as an
advocate of its interests, said Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on
Friday upon his return from Paris where he conducted a two-day
visit.
The fact that France was the first western European country Mesic
had visited since he took office, was described by the Croatian
President as "a good move that will have reverberations in Europe
and the world". This was also a good move as France will take over
the rotating presidency over the European Union in six weeks, he
added.
"France wants an open Croatia where it can invest," Mesic told
reporters immediately after he landed at the Pleso airport.
He said that during the talks with top French officials the Croatian
delegation had confirmed that very soon its country would have
legislation compatible with European standards.
Concerning future moves in the process of approaching EuroAtlantic
structures, Mesic said Zagreb was trying, in a parallel manner, to
improve ties with its neighbours as well as to strengthen relations
with EU member-states.
Asked whether during his visit to Paris they had considered
Croatia's bids to enter the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Mesic
said Croatia had done its best in this respect and now it was up to
Europe and the United States to make the following move. He also
voiced confidence that the issue would soon be settled.
I believe it will take its course and as far as I could understand
our friends in France we do not need do anything special in this
regard, Mesic added.
Asked to comment on the latest developments about the 'Vecernji
List' daily, Mesic said there had obviously been moves of some
people outside Vecernji List who did not have the right to do so.
Whether they (moves) were or were not damaging is not on us to decide
but it is up to concerned parties - the Interior Ministry, or even,
the prosecution, or possibly nobody, he said.
"What is certain is that things happened which have raised founded
suspicions that not everything had been undertaken in accordance
with what rules order," Mesic concluded
