NEW YORK, May 2 (Hina) - Representatives of countries of the
Southeast of Europe, US officials and representatives of the
European Union, United Nations and Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe discussed the future of this European region
in New York on Tuesday.
The meeting was closed for the public and discussed the content and
programmes of the Stability Pact for the Southeast of Europe.
Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic, taking part in
the meeting on investment and economic development of Europe's
Southeast, reiterated Croatia's well-known stance that each
country should with its own merits gain its seat in the community of
European countries and trans-Atlantic associations.
With the exception of Serbia, Croatia has good relations with all
its neighbours and other countries of the Southeast of Europe.
For the development of these relations it does not need the
assistance of the international community, particularly not a
formal frame.
Representatives of other states voiced the same stance apart from
Albanian President Rexhep Meidani. He thought regional connecting
was a precondition for a joint accession into the European Union.
In continuation of the meeting on investments in countries of the
Southeast of Europe, US State Secretary Madeleine Albright will
speak about geopolitical circumstances and the creation of a secure
environment for foreign investments.
The subject will also be discussed by Javier Solana and US
President's special advisor.
