ICTY TRIAL CHAMBER REJECTS PART OF KORDIC-CERKEZ INDICTMENT

ZAGREB, April 10 (Hina) - The Hague Tribunal's Trial Chamber in the case Kordic-Cerkez rejected four counts of the indictment against the two Bosnian Croats, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said on Monday. Two counts of the indictment, which refer to the destruction of institutions dedicated to education and religion in Divjak and Stupni Dol during the Croat-Muslim conflict, were rejected with the consent of the Prosecution. The other two rejected counts refer to the plunder of property in a number of villages in the Lasva Valley area. The indictment now includes accusations such as expulsion, unlawful assaults on civilians, or killings in the area. The defence requested the rejection of the whole indictment at the end of the prosecution's part of the proceedings but the request was rejected. The defence started presenting the case on Monday.
