ZAGREB, April 7 (Hina) - Owing to increasingly frequent media
attacks against Croatian Army's generals who were engaged in the
1995 liberating operations "Flesh" and "Storm" and manipulations
with names of people who will be allegedly transferred to the Hague-
based international tribunal, we have decided to set up the
headquarters for the defence of the dignity of the Homeland War,
Djuro Decak told reporters on Friday.
Decak, the president of the Association of Croatian Homeland War
Veterans (UHVDR), said the constitution of the headquarters was a
conclusion of Friday's session of the UHVDR national committee.
The aim of the newly-established body is to protect positive
achievements of the Homeland War, he said.
Decak added that he would request a parliamentary debate on the
Homeland War and a clear definition of the aggressor.
Being dissatisfied with a statement of the ICTY (International War
Crimes Tribunal for former Yugoslavia) chief prosecutor Carla del
Ponte that the Croatian Government has been notified of names of
people whom the Hague tribunal would like to process, the UHVDR has
decided to forward an open letter to the Government and asked it to
make public names of ICTY indictees as this association believes
that there is no point any longer to keep their names secret.
According to Decak, del Ponte's statement has caused some amount of
uncertainty and fear among Croatian war veterans which may bring
about traumatic consequences.
A Vice President of UHVDR, Luka Majic, said they would call on war
veterans to exercise "civil disobedience" in case of the
extradition of Croatian generals.
