ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - The Croatian Government and the Trade Union of State Employees on Wednesday signed an agreement which included a regulation from a recent agreement between the Government and the Trade Union of Public and
State Service on the five percent decrease of gross basic wage, namely instead of 1,500 kuna (DM375) it would amount to 1,425 kuna (DM356.25). Given that the Government had pledged to increase the non taxable part of salaries from 1,000 kuna (DM250) to 1,250 kuna (312.15), by the decrease of basic wage, state employees would receive about 30 kuna (DM7.5) less from their net wage. The decrease of salaries will go in effect immediately, namely with salaries for March. ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - The Croatian Government and the Trade Union
of State Employees on Wednesday signed an agreement which included
a regulation from a recent agreement between the Government and the
Trade Union of Public and State Service on the five percent decrease
of gross basic wage, namely instead of 1,500 kuna (DM375) it would
amount to 1,425 kuna (DM356.25).
Given that the Government had pledged to increase the non taxable
part of salaries from 1,000 kuna (DM250) to 1,250 kuna (312.15), by
the decrease of basic wage, state employees would receive about 30
kuna (DM7.5) less from their net wage. The decrease of salaries will
go in effect immediately, namely with salaries for March.
The Government also pledged it would adjust salaries in state
services to salaries in state-owned companies, as well as the
coefficient of state employees to other coefficients in the public
sector, by November 1. The Union, therefore expects that wages of
state employees would increase by the payment of salaries for
October.
The Collective Agreement was signed for a two-year period, and
according to First Deputy Premier Goran Granic, the Government must
be ready to negotiate on amendments to the agreement any time, if
there are reasons for amendments.
The Government is aware that state employees are not paid enough,
therefore a revision process in the state administration will be
conducted which should lead to the decrease of administration and
the increase of wages of state employees, Granic stressed.
The Trade Union of State Employees adopted the Government's
attitude that everyone must share the burden, in order to see
results in six month, president of the Union Ivica Ihas said.
The union pointed to the Government that in line with the law, the
Government needed to use 20 percent of the sale of 45,000 state-
owned apartments for solving housing problems of state employees,
Ihas added.
