'SONS' HOLDS SESSION

ZAGREB, April 3 (Hina) - A new composition of the central committee for national security (SONS) on Monday held its first session, reported the Office for the National Security. The first session centred on the situation in members of the intelligence community and irregularities which have recently been made public in the media. The SONS members established that there had been failures in the work of the security information service (SIS) of the Defence Ministry (MORH) in the "Tot" case, about which the weekly "National" reported in the issue of 15 March. They also saw that there was a lack of coordination inside the intelligence community in the implementation of an operation called "Kameleon". The SONS was notified that the Defence Ministry would take certain measures concerning military and disciplinary actions and establishment of the responsibility. The SONS stressed that it was necessary to train staff additionally in their professional field in order to improve the protection of national security. The Sabor's internal affairs and national security committee should play a particular role in normative arrangements and the strengthening of control mechanisms. Former and latest developments show that it is necessary to carry out reforms in the intelligence community and define precisely jurisdiction, the scope of activities, methods and means of the work, legal regulations as well as to strengthen internal cooperation, read the Office for National Security's statement.
