ZAGREB, March 30 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan
announced that he would meet President Stipe Mesic on Thursday to
discuss the current state of affairs and that he would make a public
statement about the meeting on Friday.
Speaking at today's government session, Racan said at the moment he
did not see any conflict between the Government, Parliament, and
the President of the State. "I only see differences about what
should be done to secure parliamentary democracy and a majority
vote of citizens (at the elections)," Racan said.
Racan strongly criticised statements by European Integration
Minister Ivan Jakovcic regarding the blockade of the Istarska Bank
account, in particular Jakovcic's politicising of problems
connected with the Istarska Bank.
The Prime Minister suggested that the Government condemn
Jakovcic's behaviour and ask that he state whether or not he
supports the Government or if will continue to obstruct its work
with similar conduct.
Jakovcic apologised for his statements, emphasising that he had
never thought about attacking the Government or any Government
member.
He distanced himself on his own behalf and on behalf of the Istrian
Democratic Assembly (IDS), whose president he is, from statements
by his party colleague Damir Kajin, who compared the current
government with the previous one. "I don't deny that I have said
some harsh words, and I don't accept claims that the Government is
in a crisis. I want to continue working and I would not like to leave
the Government," Jakovcic said.
The government is today debating attacks it is exposed to and the
behaviour of some of its members. It has been suggested within the
debate that the government adopt a conclusion saying that nobody
has the right to speak about the Government as if it were their own
property or comment on something that the Government has not
adopted a decision about, whether it concerned the protocol, the
army, or something else.
It was also suggested that the government analyse its work in the
past 60 days.
