LOWER HOUSE TO REVIEW POSTPONEMENT OF LAW ON CHILD'S ALLOWANCE

ZAGREB, March 24 (Hina) - The Croatian National Parliament House of Representatives will review a law pos,tponing the application of the new Law on Child's Allowance. The House of Counties adopted the motion Friday, using its right of veto. The Upper house thus accepted the request of 36 MPs (from the Croatian Democratic Union, Croatian party of rights and Christian Democrats of Medjimurje) and their explanation there was no economic or humane justification for the postponement of the Law on Child's Allowance which would guarantee this right to more children than is the case currently. The MPs claimed that despite all difficulties the additional 600 to 700 million kuna (US$75 to 87.5 million) could be amassed so the children of farmers, peasants and unemployed could receive children's' allowances. The MPs claimed that despite all difficulties the additional 600 to 700 million kuna (US$75 to 87.5 million) could be amassed so the children of farmers, peasants and unemployed could receive children's' allowances. Arguments by Labour and Social welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic did not manage to dissuade MPs from returning the law to the Lower House. The only reasons for postponing the application of the law was a lack of resources, a lack of valid information about the number of users, unprepared personnel infrastructure and issues surrounding property censuses.
