ZAGREB COUNTY COURT ACQUITS VINKO SINDICIC ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The Zagreb County Court on Thursday acquitted Vinko Sindicic on the count of killing Croatian emigrant Bruno Busic on the instruction of the former Yugoslav secret
police in Paris in October 1978. The Court's Trial Chamber, which was chaired by judge Damir Kos during a four-month trial, also decided that Sindicic be immediately released. The defendant has the right to appeal the court ruling with the Supreme Court. An investigation against Sindicic had been initiated in 1993, but since at that time he was serving his 15-year prison sentence in Scotland for the attempted murder of Croatian emigrant Nikola Stedul, he was not within the reach of the Croatian judiciary. Scottish authorities extradited Sindicic in 1998, and following a one-year investigation, an indictment was issued. Sindicic's trial began in November last year, ending in his acquittal.
