ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - At Friday's negotiations with unions of public and government officials about salaries of the budget users, the Government offered an increase of the untaxable part of salaries to 1.250 kuna (US$156.25) as a
compensation for the announced five per cent reduction of gross salaries, but the unions refused the offer and announced a strike for March 21. According to the Government's suggestion, net salaries of users of the budget would be decreased insignificantly, or would rise in the range from minus 2.3 per cent to plus 1.4 per cent, deputy vice-president Zeljka Antunovic said. The unions, however assessed that the salaries would decrease by between 2.5 and 2.7 per cent and refused to accept the arrangement. Negotiations will continue on Monday, a day before the announced strike.(hina) lml jn
