ZAGREB, March 16 (Hina) - The newly-appointed director of Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), Mirko Galic, was born in the Dalmatian town of Piramatovci on February 23, 1945. Galic graduated from the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. He
has been active in journalism since 1968, having completed his political science studies. Galic worked the longest in Zagreb's daily "Vjesnik". He was a correspondent from France on two occasions (1980-1984 and 1988-1997). In September 1997 he became a member of the HRT management and resigned from the duty in February 1999 due to a blockade in the transformation of the HRT into a public television and to non-agreement with its programme and editorial policies. He has been awarded for the reporter of the year by the Croatian Journalists' Society in 1988 and given the life achievement award in 1994.
