Although Galic's appointment was adopted with only one abstention,
opposition representatives objected the new authorities wished to
urgently put their man at the head of HRT in order to replace some
editors and control HRT.
"You want to put HRT under your control," said Vladimir Seks of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). Seks, head of the HDZ
parliamentary bench, said that by nominating Galic for the post of
HRT director the ruling coalition went back on its electoral
promise that it would not meddle in the editorial policy of the
public television.
The coalition rejected these objections and its representatives
emphasised Galic's appointment was aimed at enabling the
transformation of HRT from a state-party into a public television.
