ZAGREB, Mar 10 (Hina) - Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) director Ivan Vrkic on Friday requested parliament to discuss a report on HRT's work in the past year as soon as possible. One of the reasons for the request is "to save the HRT,

ZAGREB, Mar 10 (Hina) - Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) director
Ivan Vrkic on Friday requested parliament to discuss a report on
HRT's work in the past year as soon as possible.
One of the reasons for the request is "to save the HRT, the
management and the journalists from public lynching which certain
circles in high authorities have recently been carrying out," Vrkic
says in a letter he forwarded to parliament president Zlatko Tomcic
today.
In the letter, Vrkic reminds Tomcic he made his mandate available on
10 January with the intention to enable a civilised and peaceful
transfer of authority, in keeping with democratic standards.
"At your suggestion and demand I stayed to work on and manage the
HRT, in difficult conditions, while competent bodies of authority
are not appointing new people," Vrkic said in the letter, which also
contains a copy of the report on HRT's work in 1999.
At the end of the letter, Vrkic appealed to Tomcic "to do everything
to protect the reputation of the HRT and of the people who do their
work professionally."
