ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Sime Lucin welcomed a decision of the Constitutional Court which annuls the his power to make decisions on tapping phones or opening letters, the Interior Ministry said in a statement
on Thursday. The Constitutional Court's decision proves that Croatia is inevitably taking the path of building a democratic and civil society in which civil liberties and human rights will represent the highest values, the statement read, adding the decision also represented a contribution to the process of democratisation and de-politicising, which had started in the Interior Ministry. It is also reminded that immediately upon taking his office Minister Lucin had publicly waived his powers from Article 18 of the Law on Interior Affairs and that he had not signed any regulation in line with those powers since.(hina) jn rml
