Parliament strips HDSSB MP of immunity for second time

ZAGREB, July 1 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament (Sabor) on Friday again stripped Ivan Drmic, a member of Parliament of the regional HDSSB party, of immunity from criminal prosecution on the suspicion that he committed a criminal act of unlawful intermediation.

Two weeks ago, the parliament waived the immunity of Drmic on the suspicion that he conspired to commit crime and made a false report to the police.

The Sabor also amended the law on criminal proceedings enabling suspects to become acquainted with documentation in their case during preliminary proceedings.

The amendments envisage the establishment of the High Criminal Court on 1 January 2015.

MPs ratified an agreement between Croatia and the United States on developing cooperation in the fight against serious crime.

The legislation on establishing a university in Dubrovnik was amended.

The Sabor adopted a law on the registry of national minorities' councils.

Reports by ombudspersons for persons with disabilities and gender equality were endorsed.

The Sabor will reconvene next week.
