LOVRAN, Feb 26 (Hina) - Croatia can definitely meet all criteria and conditions in the next six years to be admitted to the European Union, said Croatia's European Integration Minister Ivan Jakovcic on Saturday, at the beginning of
the 13th national assembly of the European parliament of Croatian youth. Addressing the gathered at this event in the Istrian coastal town of Lovran, Minister Jakovcic said that on the basis of confidence that its potentials are stronger compared to some other countries that have left Croatia behind on the path toward European association, his country would insist on a special treatment and assessment of its individual achievements. LOVRAN, Feb 26 (Hina) - Croatia can definitely meet all criteria and
conditions in the next six years to be admitted to the European
Union, said Croatia's European Integration Minister Ivan Jakovcic
on Saturday, at the beginning of the 13th national assembly of the
European parliament of Croatian youth.
Addressing the gathered at this event in the Istrian coastal town of
Lovran, Minister Jakovcic said that on the basis of confidence that
its potentials are stronger compared to some other countries that
have left Croatia behind on the path toward European association,
his country would insist on a special treatment and assessment of
its individual achievements.
Jakovcic accentuated that the Croatian public should be made
sensitive to all good but also to all problems which can occur with
Croatia's accession to the EU.
The most important thing is that Croatians become aware that
conditions set up for their country's accession to the EU must be
fulfilled including the harmonisation of the national legislation
with EU laws and regulations, the adjustment of the economic and tax
system so that they may give impetus to foreign investments which
Jakovcic views as a prerequisite for Croatia's development.
He cited the experience of the Croatian biggest peninsula of Istria
which is the first Croatian county to have joined the Assembly of
European Regions. He described Istria's experience as very
favourable adding that Croatia can also expect similar experiences
in Europe.
The 13th national assembly in Lovran, entitled "Democratisation
And the EU Enlargement", has gathered about 80 seniors of grammar
schools from all Croatian areas.
