ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - The supervisory board of 'Badel 1862', a
factory of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, which held an
extraordinary session on Friday evening, unanimously adopted a
report submitted by Director-General Mario Scherr on the situation
in the company.
It also endorsed a proposal of the company's management to convene
an extraordinary meeting of shareholders for 6 May this year, said
Zeljko Jelic, a spokesman for Badel 1862.
At Mario Scherr's request, the supervisory board relieved him of
his duty as the company's General-Director. It appointed Zarko
Zigic to replace Scherr. Zigic has so far been the director in
charge of the market in southeastern Europe.
The Supervisory Board noted on Friday that the departure of Scherr
from this post was "extorted by a group of employees, who have used
methods of pressure, ultimatum and illegal strikes in order to
resolve the ownership structure of 'Badel 1862' and their position
in this joint stock company,"
A part of employees with this Croatian liquor company, gathered in a
coordination for the protection of the factory, blocked the
factory's plants in Zagreb late last year, accusing the former and
current management and supervisory board of illegal privatisation
and ownership transformation to the detriment of small
shareholders. They discontinued the blockade last Monday but
insisted still on the resignation of Scherr and other leading
persons.
Investigating the privatisation of 'Badel 1862', the financial
police have established a series of irregularities in the purchase
of shares, the Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP) reported last
Tuesday.
According to the HFP data, the largest part of the factory's shares,
39.17 percent, are owned by small shareholders, however, the exact
ownership structure should be established at the shareholders'
assembly because shares have been sold in the meantime.
