SNS DEMANDS THAT CRO GOVT CHANGES POLICY TOWARDS SERBS IN CRO

ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - Croatia cannot be recognised as a civilisational, citizens', and democratic country until all discrimination towards citizens of Serb nationality is eradicated, the President of the Serb People's Party (SNS) and the only Serb deputy to the Croatian National Sabor, Milan Djukic, told a press conference on Thursday. The SNS expects the new Government to change its policy towards Serbs which, in Djukic's opinion, in the past ten years was in the function of ethnic cleansing and passing of different discriminatory laws which denied basic constitutional rights to Serbs in Croatia. The SNS is conducting and is scheduled to conduct talks with foreign delegations in Croatia, particularly with ambassadors and the UNHCR, Djukic stressed. He pointed to the fact that Croatia cannot expect help from the international community and joining European integration until it enables the return of Serbs to their homes, the return of their property, the right on the reconstruction of their homes, the right to work under equal conditions, etc. Croatia is obliged to be consistent in the implementation of laws, particularly the law adjustment act, the amnesty law for all citizens apart from those suspected of war crimes, Djurkic said. Croatia must turn all war crimes to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), accept the responsibility for killed Serbs and discover locations of their burial, and gradually change its policy towards the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the homeland of Serb people.
