RIJEKA/KRALJEVICA, Feb 22 (Hina) - Croatia's Economy Minister
Goranko Fizulic on Tuesday said the intention of the Government was
to privatise shipyards soon.
The Government wants to preserve as many jobs as possible in the
shipyards and to have as less costs as possible in the privatisation
process, Fizulic said while touring the "3. Maj" shipyard in Rijeka
and the Kraljevica yard outside this biggest Croatia seaport.
Fizulic said the "3. Maj" could operate as a privatised firm next
year, but it would receive state subsidies at levels usual for other
European countries that have the shipbuilding industry.
In addition to money earmarked for the rehabilitation, about 350
million kuna ($46 million) will be given to Croatia shipyards as
state subsidies this year.
During his visit in the Kraljevica shipyard, the Economy Minister
said this company could easily overcome problems if the Defence
Ministry settled all debts toward it. Losses of Kraljevica, that
amount to 25 million kuna (some $3.3), were not big burdens,
particularly if contracts on the construction of two ships for
Croatian firms are carried out, he added.
