BRUSSELS, Feb 14 (Hina) - The European Union Council of Ministers on Monday confirmed positive assessments of the programme of the new Croatian government and decided to accelerate the process of Croatia's drawing closer to the EU.
The Council also decided that a study be drawn up on Croatia's ability to start negotiations on an Agreement on Stabilisation and Association. This was announced by Jaime Gama, Foreign Minister of Portugal, the country chairing the EU, after a meeting between Croatian Premier Ivica Racan and the foreign ministers of EU member-countries. Addressing a press conference, Racan expressed great satisfaction with today's meetings at the EU headquarters. Describing the talks as very successful, Racan said the next six to eight months would be of crucial importance for the pace of Croatia-EU rapprochement.
