GORAN GRANIC COMMENTS ON GOVERNMENT'S PROGRAMME

ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic on Tuesday said a draft programme which the Government had adopted earlier in the day, tackled in detail issues of the economy and economic development, a law-based state, the revision of the ownership transformation and issues relating to the development of social activities. "Our programme objectives were defined by our pre-election programmes in which we had clearly opted for what was actually the aim of Croatia," Granic told reporters after Tuesday's closed session of the Croatian Government. The programme is to be presented by Croatian Premier Ivica Racan to the National Sabor's House of Representatives on Wednesday when the lower house takes a vote of confidence in the recently appointed Government In context of foreign policy's objectives, Granic pointed to Croatia's bids to approach closer the European Union, establish good-neighbour
The programme is to be presented by Croatian Premier Ivica Racan to the National Sabor's House of Representatives on Wednesday when the lower house takes a vote of confidence in the recently appointed Government In context of foreign policy's objectives, Granic pointed to Croatia's bids to approach closer the European Union, establish good-neighbourly relations with states it borders as well as to further economic cooperation with its neighbouring countries and change the policy toward Bosnia-Herzegovina. The programme deals with all economic issues. "Being aware of the gravity (of the situation) we present the situation we have inherited and try to define courses of the Government's work," Granic added. Granic viewed the current financial situation as very serious. Such a situation demands strict measures of austerity in 2000 and probably it will influence the drafting of a budget for this year, he stressed. "2000 should be used for creation of sound foundations for the development and growth in the coming years of our term of office," Granic said. First Deputy Premier expected the programme would receive the support of MPs during tomorrow's voting at the session of the lover house. (hina) ms
