ZAGREB, Feb 4 (Hina) - Due to varying interpretations for the reason behind his recent irrevocable resignation to the office of the Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) secretary-general, Drago Krpina on Friday issued Hina with the text
of the resignation he submitted to the HDZ presidency. Krpina emphasises that the circumstances which have arisen in the HDZ are unacceptable to him personally for ethical reasons as are the unacceptable actions of individuals within the HDZ's Presidency which do not allow me to continue successfully in my duties as secretary-general. "The only thing that would be fair and respectable in these conditions, is to pass on these duties to someone else. This decision is definite and irrevocable. ZAGREB, Feb 4 (Hina) - Due to varying interpretations for the reason
behind his recent irrevocable resignation to the office of the
Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) secretary-general, Drago Krpina
on Friday issued Hina with the text of the resignation he submitted
to the HDZ presidency.
Krpina emphasises that the circumstances which have arisen in the
HDZ are unacceptable to him personally for ethical reasons as are
the unacceptable actions of individuals within the HDZ's
Presidency which do not allow me to continue successfully in my
duties as secretary-general. "The only thing that would be fair and
respectable in these conditions, is to pass on these duties to
someone else. This decision is definite and irrevocable. I am
deeply convinced and fully aware that there are individuals in the
HDZ and even within the presidency who are pleased with my
decision", Krpina said.
He stressed that his decision was by no means a sign of cowardice in
light of the difficulties being faced by the party.
"The issue at stake, is a rational realisation, although a little
sad admittedly, that the preservation of the HDZ platform and
ideals can better be preserved, if I step down instead of staying
and conducting the honoured and demanding duties", Krpina's
resignation letter notes.
He expressed his regret at the methods of speculation, calculation,
intrigue, secret pacts and pragmatic manoeuvres that individuals
have introduced into the HDZ through the years for the purpose of
personal political influence with "very suspicious objectives who
had no qualms of utilising their closeness to President Tudjman.
Political activities of this kind have cost our party and the entire
country, quite dearly", Krpina said.
According to Krpina, these same methods are being used by these same
people to take the helm of the party and can result in repercussions
which cannot even be fathomed.
"I remain loyal to the ideals of the original platform established
by the HDZ for which I will not regret any efforts endured in the
Croatian National Sabor or elsewhere, Krpina notes in his letter of
resignation on six pages written in the early morning hours of
February 2.
