ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - President of the National Electoral Commission Marijan Ramuscak on Monday told reporters that everything was ready for the second round of the presidential election in Croatia to be held on February 7. In this
round, voters will be able to cast their ballots either for Drazen Budisa or Stipe Mesic, who gained most votes in the first round of the elections. About 250,000 ballots for the second round of the elections will be sent abroad and some of them have already been sent. Ramuscak said he was not yet familiar with expenses of the elections. He said that the Government is to pass a decision on the compensation of expenses. He reminded that about 50,000 persons participated in the electoral process. Should the Government decide to proclaim the day of elections a holiday, Ramuscak said he did not know how the costs of absence from work of persons implementing the election

elections. He said that the Government is to pass a decision on the

Should the Government decide to proclaim the day of elections a
holiday, Ramuscak said he did not know how the costs of absence from
work of persons implementing the election will be covered.
The Government did not give any details about whether the 7th of
February would be a holiday. According to deputy Prime Minister
Zeljka Antunovic, a decision on that has not yet been passed, and
the public will be informed of the decision on time.
Ramuscak informed reporters of the repeat voting from the first
round of the presidential elections at two polling stations. At
polls in Zagreb, the majority of votes went to the candidate of the
coalition of the Croatian Social Liberal Party/Social Democratic
Party Drazen Budisa, namely 55.26 percent, while Stipe Mesic of the
Croatian People's Party won 35.96 percent of the vote. Mate Granic
of the Croatian Democratic Union gained 3.51 percent of the vote. At
a poll in Otocac, Mesic won 78.82 percent, Granic 9.41 percent and
Budisa 6.67 percent of the vote. The turnout at both polling was
extremely poor, 10.43 percent of voters in Zagreb and 31.42 percent
in Otocac.
