PAVLETIC APPOINTS RACAN CROATIA'S NEW PRIME MINISTER

ZAGREB, Jan 27 (Hina) - Croatian parliament president and acting head of state Vlatko Pavletic on Thursday appointed Ivica Racan Croatia's new prime minister, and relieved Zlatko Matesa of the said office. Pavletic today also appointed the new ministers of Racan's government, in keeping with a list previously submitted by Racan. The transfer of authority in line with results of January 3 parliamentary elections has been agreed in an atmosphere of understanding and was carried out in the shortest time given repeated voting at some polling stations, Pavletic told the appointment ceremony which began at the Croatian National Parliament at 2 p.m. Pavletic said he received today from the Constitutional Court a document confirming the parliamentary elections were concluded in line with the Croatian Constitution and the Law on the Election of Representatives.
