ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Zvo Separovic on
Friday told Hina he hoped that after appeals to the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia were lodged, the final
verdicts to five Bosnian-Croats would be more appropriate.
Earlier in the day, the Tribunal found Vladimir Santic, Drago
Josipovic, Zoran Kupreskic, Mirjan Kupreskic and Vlatko Kupreskic
guilty of crimes against humanity for the persecution of Muslims
and participation in the attack on a village called Ahmice and
sentenced them to six to 25 years in prison.
Separovic believes that the ICTY, by its verdict, continues to
"justify itself".
He stressed he was working on a bill on amendments to the
Constitutional Court regarding its cooperation with the ICTY, in
line with the United States model.
In Separovic opinion this would protect the rights of Croatian
citizens.
The ICTY on Thursday requested the Tribunal to issue an order for
Croatia to designate a senior official, either the Defence Minister
or the Justice Minister who would under oath, facing criminal
liability, explain what had been done to fulfil requests for the
hand over of documents regarding the "Kordic-Cerkez" case
requested by the Prosecutor's Office and the trial chamber as of the
beginning of last year.
In Separovic's opinion this is a "harsh aggression towards
independence and sovereignty of the Croatian State".
