SEPAROVIC: I BELIEVE I CAN WIN VOTERS' TRUST

ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - "I believe that I can win the trust of the electorate," independent presidential candidate Zvonimir Separovic said on Monday upon returning from the United States and Canada, where, he said, he had received strong support from Croatian emigrants. Estimating that Croatia cannot exist without its Diaspora, whose return was being obstructed by bureaucracy, Separovic said one of his main political tasks was to regulate relations with threatened Bosnian Croats. Separovic said he would start his campaign in his own car under the slogan "Vote for Zvonimir". After his visits to Toronto, Chicago and New York, Separovic continues the campaign in southern Croatia and in neighbouring Medjugorje region (Bosnia-Herzegovina). The campaign will end in Zagreb with a large rally which should gather displaced persons and other Homeland War victims. In his programme Separovic offers a 10-item agreement with the Croat

In his programme Separovic offers a 10-item agreement with the Croatian people, including changes necessary for Croatia to become a democratic and prosperous country. The first step Separovic would make as president would be to exert pressure on the new government and the Sabor to fulfil their promises. National security and independence have an important place in Separovic's programme. Separovic also believes the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) is to blame for the difficult social and economic situation in the country because it behaved in a "thoughtless and arrogant manner". During his visit to the United States, Separovic also visited the US law firm which is representing Croatia in The Hague. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the way Croatia will "defend itself from aggressive requests for handing over documents on operations 'Flash' and 'Storm'" at a session of the Hague Tribunal on January 13.
