ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - Independent presidential candidate Slaven
Letica presented his electoral programme at Monday's press
conference.
He stressed, he entered the electoral contest as an independent
candidate, which included certain problems because he was not
backed up by any party of a coalition. He stressed however that this
was also a great advantage because he could speak sincerely and
represent interests of all citizens. He believes that most of the
presidential candidates are exaggerating in the announcements of
their victory at the elections.
Letica said he was a Croatian patriot, a social democrat of central
orientation, and in his private and public life he advocated
traditional human values.
During his campaign, he will visit all parts of Croatia.
He said he would not write articles in Croatia's weekly "Globus"
during the campaign, and if he was to be elected President of the
State he would stop writing for Globus entirely. By this, I will try
to follow the principle of equality in the electoral contest,
Letica stressed.
He, however, believes he is not equal to other presidential
candidates due to money invested in other candidates' campaigns.
"Nowadays in Croatia if you refuse money from pimps, tycoons, and
drug dealers, you are left with no other sponsors", Letica
assessed.
The slogan of his campaign reads "You Led the Croatian State!". He
will advocate the implementation of parliamentary system. In his
opinion the President should be independent from the parliament in
order to preserve Croatia's political stability. He believes the
president should be elected at general elections.
He is particularly interested in the issue of the depolitisation of
the army, therefore he scheduled talks with the Croatian Defence
Minister Pavao Miljavac to be held on Wednesday.
Bosnia-Herzegovina will be one of the important elements of his
campaign. He will advocate the revision of the Dayton Agreement,
because in Letica's opinion, it is a reflection of a necessity of
the time it was made.
