SARAJEVO, Jan 7 (Hina) - The parliamentary election in Croatia is a
step toward democracy and away from the post-war nationalist policy
of ethnic division, the head of the U.N. Mission to Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Jacques Klein, said in an interview with the Sarajevo
daily 'Oslobodjenje' on Friday.
Klein said it was obvious that Croatians were fed up with the policy
of nationalism which had resulted in their isolation from Europe.
The voters have realised that Croatia's interfering in Bosnia's
internal affairs has drawn the country further away from European
and North American states, Klein said, adding he was perplexed by
the hesitancy of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to nominate
Mate Granic its presidential candidate.
The Croatian parliamentary election is a clear message also to the
peoples of Bosnia-Herzegovina that they will have no future if they
continue voting for parties solely on the basis of their
nationality, because the real issues are the economic ones.
The election in Croatia is a message to Croats and Serbs in Bosnia
that their dreams of secession are over. There is a state Bosnia-
Herzegovina, which is part of the United Nations and which will join
the European family of states, Klein said.
He recommended to BH Croats to focus on realising their rights as a
constituent nation through the federal and state bodies of
authority in their own country.
