ZAGREB, Jan 4 (Hina) - At the main secretariat of the Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ) party candidates who were expecting the first informal results of Monday's parliamentary poll, early Tuesday morning said the election results were
far below expected. Vice-president Mate Granic said it was clear the HDZ had lost the election. Vice-president Vladimir Seks said electoral results for the HDZ were below his expectations on the national level, including his, the fourth, electoral unit. Considering the small instance of votes counted, he stressed he had expected the HDZ to get 35 to 40 per cent of votes, but currently the result was significantly lower. Results are below expected, HDZ vice-president Nikica Valentic said, expressing conviction that the HDZ had in the past period done far more good and that it was easier to be in the opposition than in authority.(hina) lml
