PRISTINA, Dec 28 (Hina) - Commenting on Friday's resignation of UN
Civil Administrator for Kosovo Hans Haekkerup, senior officials of
three leading Kosovo Albanian parties said Haekkerup had made
certain progress, however, he had also made some wrong moves during
his mandate.
Party leaders said political processes in Kosovo would not stop
after today's resignation.
A vice-president of the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo, Kol Berisha,
said Haekkerup's decision came at a time when Kosovo needed help in
the establishment of new institutions.
"Although we did not always agree with all of Haekkerup's views and
his entire work, his work has been successful. Kosovo's
constitutional framework was adopted, a free general election was
held, the process of establishment of democratic institutions has
begun and significant progress has been made with regard to the
release of Albanian political prisoners, although not all of them
have been released," Berisha said.
A senior official of the Kosovo Democratic Party, Fatmir Limaj,
said Haekkerup's decision was the result of failures in his work.
A vice-president of the Alliance for Kosovo's Future, Naim Maljoku,
said the resignation was damaging and commended Haekkerup's role in
the organising of the general election.
A representative of the Serb coalition 'Povratak' (Return), Rada
Trajkovic, said Haekkerup had successfully carried out his tasks.
"When he arrived a year ago, Haekkerup said he would establish a
constitutional framework for Kosovo and organise a general
election and he carried out those tasks correctly," she said.
