"Celebrating Christmas as a day of peace and family union, we relive
in a special way the meaning of the Joyous Message. The very fact
that our civilisation measures time staring with Christ's birth
points to the depth and importance of that message in the history of
mankind. The Joyous Message has strongly marked the Croatian people
on its historical path. Croatian Christians, as the carriers of
that message, contribute significantly today, too, to the efforts
that are being made to enrich the life of every man and the entire
community with the values that are at the core of Jesus Christ's
message: the promotion of the inviolability of human life and
dignity, social engagement, moral values and generally accepted
achievements covered today with the term human rights. To be able to
realise those ideals, it is necessary that state institutions and
the Catholic Church continue cooperating in all areas where man and
his well-being are served," Mesic said, offering his best wishes
for Christmas and New Year to the Zagreb Archbishop, the clergy, and
all Catholic believers in Croatia.
