BELGRADE, Dec 7 (Hina) - France will support each solution based on
free harmonisation and democratic legitimacy, President Jacques
Chirac said in Belgrade Friday. He added it was, however,
anachronic that Europe's south-east was disintegration at a the
time when integration processes on the continent were
accelerating.
At a lecture Chirac held at Belgrade's Faculty of Philology before
university professors, Serbian and Yugoslav political, public and
cultural figures, he said he would like if his message were received
and completely understood in Kosovo, Montenegro, and Macedonia.
A country's disintegration cannot ensure peace and stability in the
modern world as it produces dramatic situations, particularly if it
occurs to the detriment of minorities, said Chirac. He believes the
renewal of the Yugoslav federation, apart from respecting its
integrity, would be the best solution for stability in region and
harmonious relations in the Yugoslav society.
Chirac said he presented his standpoint to Yugoslav President
Vojislav Kostunica.
Chirac also advocated the return of all refugees to Kosovo.
He reminded the EU had initiated a very big aid programme intended
for the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe for the stimulation
of regional cooperation projects. He supported the initiative of
making the Danube River a renovated symbol of cooperation among
European nations.
Supporting the priorities set by the government of Serbian Premier
Zoran Djindjic, Chirac reminded that in this respect the EU had
undertaken the most ambitious aid programme ever initiated for a
country of Southeast Europe.
