ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - Slovenia views negotiations with Croatia
regarding the border as finished and the initialled border
agreement final, Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said in
Zagreb Wednesday.
"For us, the negotiations regarding the border are completed and
the border agreement with Croatia done, although we cannot say it is
a good deal for Slovenia", Rupel said after talks with his Croatian
counterpart Tonino Picula.
Picula said the border agreement issue was not the focal point of
the talks with Rupel, but was only mentioned.
"There is an ongoing public debate in Croatia as regards the future
of the agreement. I hope all segments of Croatian politics will
continue to be open, as well as politically responsible towards the
document, and that this responsibility will be expressed in
parliamentary debate", Picula said.
He said relations between Croatia and Slovenia were such that open
issues "are in no way closing the current, let alone future
cooperation".
Rupel said the relations between two countries "have never been
better, which does not mean they cannot be even better".
Both ministers announced that an agreement on the jointly-owned
nuclear power plant Krsko could be signed soon.
Rupel and Picula also tackled cooperation in tourism. Rupel said it
was possible to achieve an agreement on tourism cooperation, on
condition that the issue of Slovene resorts in Croatia and
compensation for refugees' stay in them be solved.
The ministers paid special attention to the implementation of the
agreement on local border cooperation. Rupel said the agreement
needed to be implemented before Slovenia introduced the Schengen
regime on its border.
